

This issue can be solved by enterprise-specific ontologies, which serve as a reference during the conceptual model creation.

These models are fundamentally based on similar underlying enterprise (domain) concepts, but they differ in focus, use different modeling languages, take different viewpoints, utilize different terminology, and are used to develop different enterprise artifacts as such, they typically lack consistency and interoperability. Within an enterprise, various stakeholders create different conceptual models, such as process, data, and requirements models. A real case study describing the use of this proposal to model an Incident Management System is also included to demonstrate the feasibility and the benefits of the proposed approach.

This approach allows for: (1) formalizing the knowledge associated to the ITSM processes contained in an ITSMS (2) modeling the semantics of the activities associated to these processes in terms of workflows (3) automatically generating the high-level requirements models of the workflow-based software systems needed to support (part of) the ITSM processes and (4) from the latter, obtaining lower-level models (and eventually code) by means of automated model transformations. In this vein, this paper presents a modeling approach, formalized in ontological terms, for defining high-level requirements models of software systems that provide support for the implementation of Information Technology Service Management Systems (ITSMSs). The proposed approach can be easily implemented as a light library and used in any type of OWL/RDF or OWL/XML management application or adapted in a given management information system.Ĭurrently, few projects applying a Model-Driven Engineering (MDE) approach start from high-level requirements models defined exclusively in terms of domain knowledge and business logic. It is an attempt to structure knowledge that can be successfully extended with additional groups of solutions and parameters. It is worth mentioning that this form of knowledge representation is publicly available and focuses on the possibility of updating and reusing.

The overall goal of the proposed open knowledge repository is to provide free access to basic data and to compare the features offered. Due to the fact that there are different approaches, tools and strategies that help to avoid mistakes during modeling especially large domains and creating a new single coherent ontology, this article attempts to build a common knowledge repository in the form of an open and publicly available tool. Aligning and merging existing ontologies, which are usually handled manually, is often a big and tedious part of the sharing process. The ontology integration problem has been investigated during last years and it is still a challenging task. The widespread popularity and spread of ontologies in many areas increasingly requires the successful integration of multiple such ontologies.
